"What is Reflexology"

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that encourages the body to relax, balance and heal itself. Reflexology treats the whole body, both physically, emotionally and mentally.

"What does it entail"

It involves applying finger or thumb pressure to specific reflex points on the hands and/or feet. The reflex points reflect the organs and systems of the body. Stimulating the reflexes encourages an increased flow of energy to the corresponding part of the body. Given time this helps the body to restore homeostasis and encourages the body to heal itself.

"How does reflexology work"

Reflexology works by improving blood circulation. When the flow of blood in the body is allowed to become sluggish due to inactivity or injury nerve and blood supply to the feet becomes restricted. The slowing down of the circulation can cause a formation of chemical deposits of waste matter forming in the feet. This waste matter can be felt in the feet like small crystals of sand. During a reflexology treatment these crystals are worked upon, broken down and later expelled by the body.

"What to expect during a treatment"

A reflexology treatment lasts approximately 1 hour; the first session will be approximately 1hr 20mins as a detailed health consultation is completed. The session commences gently massaging the feet, rotating the ankles, and bringing awareness to your breathe.
I work both feet/hands using different reflexology techniques, concentrating on any areas where I find crystals or you feel a sensitivity. It is usual to feel some tenderness to certain areas of the feet and to feel a tingling sensation in areas of the body. Although some areas can be highly sensitive, the overall feeling is one of relaxation and calm. The treatment ends with a relaxing massage of the feet and toes. Again our attention will be brought to your breathing with some inhalation/exhalation techniques.

"What to expect after a treatment"

After a treatment you may experience some reactions. This illustrates your body responding to the treatment. Positive reactions may include the following:-

  • Feeling of well-being.
  • Relaxed.
  • Ability to cope better.
  • Having more energy.
  • Generally sleeping better.
  • Relief from symptoms of a condition.
  • Improved blood and lymph circulation.
It is also possible to experience negative reactions. These are due to the body eliminating toxins and bringing itself back into balance. These reactions normally diminish within 24 hrs of the treatment.
  • Phlegm and mucus – cold like symptoms.
  • More tired than usual.
  • A need to urinate more frequently.
  • Increased sweating.
  • More emotional than usual.
  • Skin reactions
  • Symptoms of an existing or previous condition that has never truly healed may flare up before it improves.
  • Headaches.
